WARHOL LIVE AT THE YOUNG! FEB 14-MAY 17, 2009
WARHOL LIVE EXHIBITION
Over the course of his meteoric career, Andy Warhol used the medium of music to transform himself from fan, to record album designer, to producer, to celebrity night-clubber, to “rock star.” Warhol Live, at the de Young from February 14 to May 17, 2009, presents the first comprehensive exploration of Andy Warhol’s work as seen through the lens of music. This exhibition brings together a wide variety of works depicting pop music royalty, including Elvis Presley, the Velvet Underground, Mick Jagger and the Rolling Stones, Liza Minnelli, Grace Jones, Deborah Harry of Blondie, and Michael Jackson. Major Warhol silkscreen paintings, films and sound recordings, album covers, illustrations, and photographs inspired by music and the performing arts will provide a visual and aural score to Warhol’s extraordinary work and life.
The de Young is located at 50 Hagiwara Tea Garden Drive, in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. Cross streets are John F. Kennedy Drive and Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive.

CHINESE NEW YEAR'S PARADE, SATURDAY FEBRUARY 7TH.
An only in San Francisco way to experience the Chinese New Year, Saturday, February 7th.
First off there is the Chinese New Year’s Parade. The parade starts at 5:15 and makes its way up Market Street , circles Union Square and ends at Kearny and Columbus . This parade has been a San Francisco tradition since gold rush days and includes a 201 foot dragon the body of which is made up of 100 dancers!
You’ve experienced the Chinese New Year’s Parade, you say? Seen the lion dancers, the open convertibles full of people, the dragons, heard the drums and firecrackers, stood in the rain [it always seems to rain on parade night and this year the forecast is for a chance of showers] and are bored by the whole thing? For a completely different take on the parade, gather up some friends and take part in The Chinese New Year’s Treasure Hunt. The hunt is a wild and fun way to explore the city and support a good cause. The hunt is developed and run by a private investigator and all proceeds go to support charity. This year’s beneficiaries are Circus Center and the Bernal Heights Neighborhood Center,
Solve a clue have a cocktail, solve a clue have another cocktail. But there are prizes for the winning teams including best named and best dressed. Cost is $40 at the door after 3 pm the day of the hunt or you can order online. The hunt starts at Justin Herman Plaza behind the Embarcadero Hyatt at 4:30 pm. Pack a flashlight, a pen and any resources you care to take along.
