BON APPETIT!
A very sweet article about Julia Child in the August issue of Vanity Fair reminded me about her wonderful book, My Life in France, which she wrote with her grand-nephew Alex Prud'homme. The book is really a love story...the love of her husband, food, cooking and France! It's also very inspiring. I am amazed by the fact that Julia Child didn't even start cooking until she was 37 and her first book, Mastering the Art of French Cooking, which she co-authored was published in 1961 when she was 49 years old and her television show, The French Chef, debuted on PBS the following year. She also inspired author Julie Powell to start cooking which she chronicled in her blog that later became a book and movie staring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams which will be released August 7th. I don't think I'll be mastering any French cooking any time soon but I can't wait to pick up some of her cookbooks next and see the film. Julia Child always reminds me that it's never too late to start something new! Bon Appetit!

AFRICAN ADVENTURE
I've been fortunate to have travelled to some amazing places, but one place I would love to visit is South Africa, and when I finally make it to this exotic destination, I will stay at Makanyane Safari Lodge, which lies hidden in lush riverside forests and was designed by a team of award-winning architects to effortlessly blend the lodge with its surroundings.
Makanyane consists of a main building and only eight suites, which lie hidden in a forest overlooking the Marico River. Rich with African textures and walls of natural rock and dried tree trunks that merge with rough teak doors and contrast with overhanging thatches, the glass walls allow uninterrupted views of the river and surrounding bush.

Jewish Film Festival to Present Free Screening of Woody Allen's Manhattan
Woody Allen's Manhattan will light up Union Square on Saturday, July 11, as part of the Jewish Film Festival's opening ceremonies.
The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival is celebrating its 29th anniversary and begins Thursday, July 23, with an opening-night party at the Swedish American Hall followed by a screening of Cathy Randall’s coming-of-age comedy Hey Hey It’s Esther Blueburger at the Roxie.

It’s a unique opportunity not only to see Allen’s 1979 dramatic masterwork on a bigger-than-big screen, but also to view New York’s breathtaking cityscape's, beautifully photographed in black and white by longtime Allen collaborator Gordon Willis, set against the San Francisco skyline.
The screening begins at 8:45 p.m., with a festival kickoff party scheduled afterward at Kuleto’s, where those in attendance can take advantage of special discounts on wine and cocktails, including the evening’s drink of choice, the Manhattan.
I am a huge fan of Woody's movies! Such a genius!
